Be ye kind
How many times have you been in a parking lot, with your blinker on, waiting for a car to pull out of a parking space so you can pull in and then another car pulls into the space before you have the chance to? I’ve had that happen to me many times. I don’t know about you but whenever that’s happened in the past, I’ve wanted to ring the person’s neck that pulled into my “claimed” parking space. If you’d be honest, you’d admit that you’ve felt the same way. Something happened a few weeks ago that has made me consider other possibilities and I hope will make me think before I give that person that gets “my” parking space a mean looking expression.
As I was waiting for a space, with my signal on and all set to pull in, a Hummer pulled into the space that I was waiting for. There was another vehicle pulling out right next to the other space so I wasn’t very upset about it. But then, suddenly, the Hummer backed out of the space and as she was going by me the driver rolled down her window and apologized and said she didn’t see my signal on. I told the young woman that it was fine, there was another space to park in, but she said she would just park up a ways.
After thinking about this I realized I needed to learn a lesson from this young woman. I need to be ready to admit when I make a mistake and be ready to apologize for it. I have to say, when I’ve pulled into a parking space and then realized someone else was waiting for it, I’ve just stayed there and hurried into the place that I wanted to go. I need to be ready to be kind. God tells us in Ephesians 4:32 “And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.”
This is the month of February, the month of “love.” As a Christian, I need to ready to show Christ’s love through kindness no matter what month it is and no matter what the circumstances are. For we Christians, being kind is not an option, it is a command and one that we should be ready to practice all the time. If we don’t show a loving heart and a kind attitude, how is the world going to believe that “God is love.” Let’s show some love and kindness, not just to our loved ones but to a hurting world, too. “Be ye kind...”
